Blue Jays Trip - April 1
Staff and students will cheer on the Toronto Blue Jays against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday April 1. This sold out field trip includes transportation to and from the game and admission. Please note that the bus will be returning to SDHS after school hours, approximately around 5 pm, so families must arrange transportation home from the school after the game.
World Down Syndrome Day- Mar 21
This day is celebrated around the world to raise awareness about Down Syndrome and that children and adults who have Down Syndrome can lead productive, happy and inclusive lives without being bullied or discriminated against. As this date fell during the March Break, we celebrated this event on March 27 with ROCK THOSE SOCKS. Staff and students wore bright, colourful, matching or mismatched socks to show our support.

Guidance updates
Community service hours update:
The Ministry of Education has created a new certificate for students who complete community service hours beyond the required 40 hours.While we don’t know all of the details about this, as this is the first year of implementation, here is what we can share with you.
Students who complete between 50 and 99 hours of community service will earn a bronze certificate.
Students who complete between 100 and 199 hours of community service will earn a silver certificate.
Students who complete more than 200 hours of community service will earn a gold certificate.

Summer school information:
The information about summer school is now available. Students are now able to sign up for courses. Students must sign up for courses from their MyBluePrint account. NEW this year, the board is offering a second summer school session in August! The July session offers in-person courses (at select locations), online courses (asynchronous) and remote learning courses (synchronous). The August session offers only online courses.

YRDSB Trans Day of Visibility
YRDSB Trans Day of Visibility Celebration is happening on Tuesday, March 31st at York U Campus in Markham from 5pm to 7pm. This event will bring together 2SLGBTQIA+ and ally students, staff, and families of all ages/grades from across York Region for an evening of community, connection, and celebration. There will be a clothing swap, community resource fair, food, and engaging activities to create a welcoming and affirming space for all. And…it’s free!! You just need to register.
