Exploring Opportunities Program (EOP)

Exploring Opportunities Programs are specialized regional programs that allow students to focus on developing a high skill level in a particular technology. These programs include both in-school and work-based experiences, including job shadowing / job twinning, work experience, cooperative education, and in-depth skills training and require the involvement of employers in their development and delivery. These programs may provide advanced standing or additional certification for students in apprenticeship and skills certification programs.

Sutton District High School has a Construction Sector Focus and a Hair & Esthetics Sector Focus.

The EOP program aims to:

  • Provide assistance in making career decisions
  • Provide first hand exposure to a range of career options
  • Promote understanding of career possibilities and skill requirements
  • Develop confidence, skills and on-the-job experiences
  • Develops transferable employability skills
  • Facilitate the transition from school to work
  • Permit training with equipment not readily available in the school
  • Allow for valuable training by experts in the field; and
  • Offer an alternative method of earning credits
